Every year, we help to find solutions to a number of social issues and we support actions and initiatives whose aim is to strengthen social cohesion, both at central as well as at local level.
We assist in the implementation of local infrastructure works, by contributing financial, technical and other resources.
We support high social interest initiatives of the local social and environmental organisations.
We strengthen local cultural life and education.
Our efforts to build constructive collaborations with the local communities in which we operate define the scope of our social goals, which involve the “CREATION OF JOBS AND DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS”, “SOCIAL INVESTMENTS IN LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS” and “STRENGTHENING EDUCATION, CULTURE AND HEALTH”. Furthermore, acting as a "RESPONSIBLE CORPORATE CITIZEN", we focus on limiting our companies’ exposure to corruption, we plan measures to mitigate the risk of incidents of corruption by adopting international anti-corruption standards, we adhere to market rules, and we strengthen transparency through the participation and active engagement of our Stakeholders in an ongoing dialogue. We participate actively and consistently in public consultations on specific Bills and on draft decisions and regulations which concern the Energy sector and affect directly our business activities.
As a “responsible social citizen”, METKA offers part of its industrial activities’ added value to actively support cultural activities and initiatives which motivate, educate and entertain the society.
The cultural activities METKA supports have a high social impact and cultivate the spirit of its employees.
The support of major events at the "Athens Music Hall" and multiple performances in Athens theatres, are some examples of METKA’s sponsorships, aiming to reach larger audiences and employees.
Recently, METKA also sponsored the “Metropolitan Opera Live”, for a series of 11 live opera performances from the New York Metropolitan Opera, broadcasted nationwide, as well as the "Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT 1)" performances, both staged at the "Athens Music Hall".
METKA supports windsurfing champions on their way to Rio 2016
METKA, always committed to Company Social Responsibility, including in its core the support of sports, has undertaken to sponsor our champions in windsurfing Vyronas Kokkalanis and Gelly Skarlatou, on their way to the Olympics.
These are two top-level athletes, whose awards bring Greece to the fore, while in addition to the performance they excel for their ethos and fair play.
These qualities also govern the philosophy of METKA that has established itself as a leading manufacturer of energy projects with global presence and domestic industrial production.
Commitment to the target, perseverance, struggle, sense of fair play and transgression are those values embraced by METKA and an integral part of its corporate culture. These are precisely the qualities that both our champions represent.
Vyron Kokkalanis ranked first in the world RS:X ranking of ISAF and seeks to gain a place on the podium. For its own part, Gelly Skarlatou has managed with its steady course to be present at the top sporting events.
METKA supports the champions of the Greek Olympic Cycling Team on the way to Rio 2016

Olympic preparation of the swimming athletes S. Gianniotis and M. Lyberta
Loyal to its commitment towards sports, METKA sponsored the Olympic preparation of the Open Water Swimming World Champion Spyros Gianniotis and of Marianna Lyberta, World Bronze Medallist in Open Water in the context of their participation in the “London 2012 Olympic Games”.
Last year in the Open Water World Championship, held in Shanghai, S. Giannotis won the title of World Champion and M. Lyberta took the 3rd position. They both received the award of “Best Athlete of the Year” from the Hellenic Association of Sports Journalists in 2011, for their achievements.
S. Giannotis won for the second consecutive year the World Champion title, for the 10.000m Open Water Swimming, at this year’s World Championship held in Barcelona.
Olympic preparation of the paralympian swimmer Charalambos Taiganidis
METKA sponsored also the preparation of the paralympian swimmer Charalambos Taiganidis, for the London 2012 Paralympics Games. The paralympian winner of nine medals at the Paralympic Games of Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 and world champion of sixteen world records competed with the national swimming team in 50 m freestyle and 100 m backstroke and took the 3rd position, winning the second medal for Greece at the “London 2012 Paralympic Games”.
13th FINA World Junior Synchronized Swimming Championship
METKA sponsored the 13th World Junior Synchronized Swimming Championship held in Volos from 12 to 16 September 2012. 241 athletes, members of the national teams of 34 countries from the 5 continents participated in the successful competition. The impressive opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the International Swimming Federation FINA, the President and members of the Greek Swimming Federation, Members of the Prefecture, the Prefect of Thessaly, the Mayor of Volos, representatives of local organizations, as well as a large crowd.
International Track & Field Meeting “Vardinoyannia”
METKA supports the International Track & Field Meeting Vardinoyannia since 2009. This major athletic event organized by EAR (Athletics Clubs of Rethymno, Crete), has a history of 27 years and promotes sports both at national and international level.
The “Vardinoyannia” International Track & Field Meeting, is ranked among the five best meetings internationally, according to the “International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)”. The event has live TV coverage and is broadcasted in several countries abroad.
Niki Volos F.C.
The support of associations of local communities and especially of Volos, where METKA’s main manufacturing plant is located, has always been a constant priority and commitment. Established in 1924, Niki Volos F.C. has become part of the city of Volos collective conscience.
METKA sponsored the 34th ELPA Rally, which took place in Central Greece, featuring most of the driving action around the well-known and challenging tracks of “Rally Acropolis”.
Hellenic Equestrian Federation
METKA has sponsored the actions of the Hellenic Equestrian Federation for the organization of events such as the Hellenic Championships and other major equestrian events for several years.
Therapeutic Riding Association of Greece
Since 2005, METKA has adopted and covers the expenses of the horse Amigo del Amor. Therapeutic riding is a rehabilitation programme, where the horse is the therapeutic means to improve the overall health and quality of life of people with physical, mental, or emotive disorders or handicaps. 20 children benefit from this programme that runs six days per week for almost 280 days per year.
Our main activity, regarding the issues related to the strengthening of entrepreneurship, aims to create a supportive mechanism which in turn stimulates our contacts with businesses, while supporting the necessary initiatives that positively and creatively enhance our relationship with the society.
Aiming to promote entrepreneurship, METKA develops collaborations with Greek and international Chambers of Commerce and Industry. These collaborations aim to promote CSR, facilitate the exchange of views and improve the social and environmental contribution of the participating organisations.
