O
n Monday 16 November 1998 I arrived at
the offices of METKA in N. Heraklion, Ath-
ens, to meet the personnel and assume the
management of the company, which had just been
acquired by MYTILINEOS Group. At the end of that
year, METKA posted a turnover of €45,110,000, with
net profits that amounted to €2,120,000 and were
generated exclusively from projects in Greece.
In January 1999 we embarked on a huge effort to
transform the company. From a local metal con-
structions manufacturer and energy projects
subcontractor, we evolved into a company with a
substantial presence in foreign markets, active in
advanced industrial manufacturing and construc-
tion. This effort was successful and culminated
in METKA being ranked among the Top 10 of the
world’s largest energy project contractors, based
on the company’s performance in 2011.
In 2013, METKA once again posted strong results.
With the international expansion of its activities in
full progress, the company consolidated its pres-
ence in the energy projects market in the Medi-
terranean and Middle East regions, as it success-
fully completed six projects totalling more than
2,500 MW of installed capacity, and signed con-
tracts for four new large-scale projects in various
countries. As a result, in 2013 METKA’s turnover
reached €606,500,000, with net profits standing at
€91,600,000, of which 88.2% were generated from
projects abroad.
At the same time, the stabilisation of the economic
environment in Greece created favourable condi-
tions for METKA’s return to the domestic construc-
tion market, using the experience and know-how
it has developed through its international activities.
Thus, 2014 is the year that METKA starts a new ef-
fort to transform itself. This new effort will allow
the company to build on its international recogni-
tion, accumulated expertise and experience, strong
liquidity and unique human resources in a way
which responds to contemporary challenges, while
continuing to innovate and develop for the benefit of
our employees and shareholders.
