METKA was founded in Volos (Central Greece), with core activity the industrial manufacturing of metal constructions.
1964
Foundation of the first manufacturing plant in Volos
The first metal constructions manufacturing plant begins its operations in Volos. METKA is a pioneer for complex metal constructions and quickly becomes established as the leader in the Greek market.
1973
Listing on the Athens Stock Exchange
The listing of METKA on the Stock Exchange provides a new momentum for the company's development. It carries out its first international projects.
1980
Full acquisition (absorption) of the technical contracting firm "Technom"
The full acquisition of "Technom" significantly increases the company’s execution capacity, particularly regarding site construction works for complex energy and industrial projects.
1989
Acquisition of "Servisteel"
Acquisition of "Servisteel", a large and modern manufacturing unit, with automated mechanical equipment for the first phase of steel fabrication. It complements METKA’s existing manufacturing infrastructure and enables vertical integration of the group’s industrial operations in central Greece.
1998-1999
Acquisition of METKA by "MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS S.A."
METKA becomes part of the MYTILINEOS Group of Companies and the management of the company is significantly strengthened. There is increased focus on turn-key projects and complex manufacturing projects.
1999
Activity expansion towards the manufacturing of defence systems
METKA makes significant investments in equipment and personnel training, acquiring strong know-how and undertaking a series of major projects, such as parts of the air-defence PATRIOT systems, Leopard 2-Hel armored vehicles, as well as of last generation submarines.
2004
First full scope EPC Combined Cycle Power Plant, of 378 MW for PPC Lavrion Unit V, Greece
METKA completes its first Combined Cycle Power Plant, of 378 MW in Lavrio, under full EPC scope. It set the beginning of a successful series of similar projects on an even larger scale.
2005
Undertaking of the co-generation Energy-Heat power Plant, of 334MW for "Aluminum of Greece", Greece
The Plant is one of the largest of its kind in Europe (energy - heat co-generation for ALUMINIUM S.A. and it is considered a reference project both in terms of technology and scale.
2007
Undertaking of an Open Cycle Power Plant in Karachi, Pakistan
The 220 MW open cycle power plant in Karachi is the first power project METKA undertakes abroad and marks the beginning of the company’s highly successful international course.
2008
Undertaking of Combined Cycle Power Plant in Brazi, Romania
Brazi was METKA’s first large-scale power plant project, with total output exceeding 800MW. It was built by the consortium of METKA–GE for Petrom (member of the group OMV), signaling METKA’s capacity to undertake and deliver large-scale Energy projects.
2009
Undertaking of a Combined Cycle Power Plant in Deir Ali, Syria
The first large scale project of METKA in Syria involves the construction of a 700MW Combined Cycle Power Plant in Deir Ali.
Establishment of the subsidiary POWER PROJECTS LTD. in Istanbul
The establishment of METKA’s subsidiary POWER PROJECTS LTD. in Istanbul aims to enhance the company’s strategy of undertaking complex turn-key power generation projects in Turkey and nearby markets.
Undertaking of a Combined Cycle Power Plant in Denizli, Turkey
First full scope EPC project of METKA in Turkey, of 775MW, via its 100% Turkish subsidiary Power Projects, for the consortium "RWE & TURCAS Güney Elektrik Uretim A.S."
2010
Undertaking of a second major project in Syria
METKA undertakes its second assignment in Syria, as EPC contractor, for the construction of a 724MW CCGT at Deir Azzur.
Undertaking of a second major project in Turkey
METKA and Power Projects undertake a second major project in Turkey: the construction of a 870MW CCGT at Samsun, for the consortium BORASCO ELEKTRIK URETIM SANAYI VE TICARET A.S.
2011
Relocation to new corporate offices
METKA relocates its head quartersto a new corporate complex in Maroussi, Athens. The new offices facilitate the full exploitation of synergies between departments and other Group companies.
Undertaking of two new energy projects in Iraq and Algeria
Two further international projects are signed, extending METKA’s activities to the significant markets of Iraq and Algeria:
- open cycle power plant of 1250 MW in Basra, Iraq
- 6 mobile gas turbine power generating sets at 3 different sites in Algeria
Significant expansion and profit record
METKA achieves significant growth in international markets and posts record sales and profitability.
2012
Undertaking of two new energy projects in Zarqa, Jordan
METKA’s activities are extended to the emerging market of Jordan, with the signature of two further high value-added projects both in Zarqa province:
Undertaking of a second project in Algeria
METKA also undertakes a second project in Algeria for the delivery of 24 trailer mounted mobile gas turbine units, at 2 different sites in Algeria, on a fast-track basis

METKA is listed among the top 10 Global Energy (EPC) Contractors, according to ENR, and is also classified in the highest category of construction contractors for major public works projects in Greece.
2013
Undertaking of new energy projects in Iraq and Algeria
METKA strenghths its position in the markets of Algeria and Iraq, by signing two more projects:
- open cycle power plant of 368 MW in Hassi R’mel, Algeria
- combined cycle plant of 1642,6 MW in Al Anbar, Iraq
International expansion focused on emerging markets
METKA is committed to its international expansion strategy and focuses primarily on markets with strong demographics and booming energy needs.
Over 6.5GW of natural gas fired plant capacity is currently under execution by METKA, in 5 different countries
2014
- Signed a contract for an important infrastructure project for the construction of a high speed railway line in Greece.
- Successfully completed 8 mobile gas turbine units, installed in 3 different sites in Algeria.
- Signed a new contract for the addition of heavy fuel oil operational capability at the Shat al Basra site in southern Iraq.
- Completed the production and delivery of 42 PATRIOT semi-trailers and 39 launcher mechanics.
2015
- Foundation of METKA EGN - new global venture for the utility scale solar power market
- First major project for METKA in Sub-Saharan Africa, in Ghana, for the installation of 10 mobile gas turbine units
- METKA signs 2 new contracts for the manufacture of patriot defence systems
2016
- METKA undertakes its second major project in Ghana, in consortium with General Electric, for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of a 192MW combined cycle power plant in Takoradi.
- Νew solar and hybrid power EPC contracts for METKA EGN with a total capacity of 75MW.
- Strategic partnership in the off-grid power market with International Power Supply (IPS), the manufacturer of the award-winning all-in-one modular power conversion system EXERON.
2017
Merger of MYTILINEOS HOLDINGS SA with its principal subsidiaries METKA S.A., PROTERGIA S.A. and ALUMINIUM OF GREECE I.C.S.A
