METKA supports windsurfing champions and wishes them every success

A successful, special farewell event was organised yesterday, 19 July 2016, by METKA, at the premises of the Nautical Athletic Club of Voula, where young athletes had the chance to meet windsurfing champions Vyron Kokkalanis and Gelly Skarlatou and wish them all the best.

A few days before their departure for the Olympic Games of Rio, the two champions had the opportunity to introduce this special sport, which was rather recently designated Olympic, and share their enthusiasm with young athletes.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Vari – Vouliagmeni – Voula, Mr. Gr. Konstantellos, the windsurfing Olympic champion, Mrs. Sophia Papadopoulou, the Olympic Team Leader, Mr. Isidoros Kouvelos, and Mrs. Sophie Daskalaki – Mytilineou.

ΜΕΤΚΑis proud sponsor of the athletes and stands by them throughout their preparation, supporting two young and talented athletes.

Athletes’ Biographies

Born to be a champion – in Athens, in 1985 – Vyron Kokkalanis has been training since the age of 13 and competes exclusively in windsurfing. He started with Mistral and proceeded to RSX in 2004.Today, at the age of 31, he has more accomplishments than any other athlete of his age, with its most recent achievements being the Gold Medal in the World Championship in China and the 1st place in the World Cup in Miami, in 2014.

He combines ideally genuine talent, discipline, dedication and full commitment to his goals, but his high performance results from hard and systematic work, powered by the support of all the people who believe in his potential.

He is rightly considered one of the most talented and promising Greek champions.

Gelly (Aggeliki) Skarlatou will represent Greece in the Olympic Games of Brazil in the women RSX category. The Greek champion will participate for the 4th time in the top sporting event on the planet.

The experienced and acknowledged windsurfer of the Νautical Club of Vouliagmeni Residents won both internal qualification competitions at the NCVR, on 15 - 20 December. Gelly Skarlatou was also the athlete who had ensured in Oman her participation in the specific category, in the Olympic Games of Rio, rightfully representing our country and demonstrating her great potential.
